Welcome
Limacon is a small, family company based in North London. We specialise in providing software solutions for administrators in the education sector.
Our products include applications for use with Microsoft Excel and interactive websites coded in ASP.net. We also collect information and maintain up-to-date web databases on behalf of several organisations.
Our chief programmer has worked in education for nearly thirty years in various roles such as......
This Microsoft Excel application was first released in 2000. We knew that most Heads of Years were use to spending days trying to create balanced tutor groups and class groups. Some were trying to include many different factors (ability, special needs, ethnicity etc.) in their calculations whilst also allowing students to name friends with whom they should be placed. The most popular method was coloured cards and a very large floor space!
We came up with a solution and it is now used in secondary schools throughout the UK and in institutions from more exotic areas such as Australia and Singapore.
Our first online area prospectus was launched in 2006. We were asked to suggest an efficient method to gather and publicise up-to-date post-16 course information from institutions in and around a certain London Borough.
Within a month of the request, we had created a online course database with information gathered from eighty organisations offering post-16 courses.
Our first options site was launched in 2004. We had been asked by a school to write a web application to allow Year 9 students to view course information and then select their courses within the restrictions laid down by the school.
The website we created proved very popular with staff, students and especially parents who appreciated being led through the complicated decision-making in such an easily understandable manner.
We were asked by representatives of the UK's largest Networked Learning Community to create a simple resource sharing site.
Working closely with the client, we gathered all their current resources, converted them into web-friendly documents, created a live database and designed a simple and attractive website to go with it.
