English Language GCSE Most students will be entered for both the English & English Literature examinations and will therefore gain two GCSEs at the end of KS4. You will not have separate lessons for these, instead your English lessons will prepare you for both examinations. Your study will include: SPEAKING & LISTENING Regular assessments that will include: explaining, describing, narrating, exploring, analysing, imagining, discussing, arguing and persuading. These will also include individual group and drama pieces. READING A range of texts will be studied, including pre-1914 and post-1914 century literature; 20th century drama; Shakespeare and poetry. A range of non-fiction text types will also be analysed. The AQA Anthology provided to students at the beginning of KS4 will be used for the examination. WRITING A variety of writing styles for different purposes and audiences will be practised. This will include a variety of non-fiction and functional test types, such as; leaflets, pamphlets, newspaper articles and essays. Functional Skills Functionality is embedded into the English Language GCSE through the three areas listed above. There is no longer any requirement for a separate Functional Skills qualification in order to obtain a Grade C or above.
