Science Combined GCSE All students will study: GCSE Science in Year 10 to be followed by a choice in Year 11 between GCSE Additional Science and GCSE Additional Applied Science GCSE Science – which is sometimes known as Core Science – is a new course which has an emphasis on scientific literacy – the knowledge and understanding which students need to make sense of the science they will meet in their everyday lives. Students studying GCSE Science will, by the end of Year 10, opt to study either GCSE Additional Science or GCSE Additional Applied Science during Year 11. GCSE Additional Science aims to develop a deeper understanding of basic scientific ideas. GCSE Additional Applied Science aims to develop scientific skills and understanding through authentic, work-related contexts. More information about these two alternative courses will be made available to students studying the GCSE Science course during Year 10.
