Restrictions

The Restriction sheet is where you specify any special criteria you wish to use in order to "pin" students to certain classes.

Typical examples of restrictions:

  • A student chooses to study French which is only offered in half of the classes (the other half study Spanish)
  • A school operates a house system
  • There are certain students who must be placed in a particular class or with a particular form tutor

The picture shown above is an example of a set of restrictions. To summarise what is being set up here:

  • The school is placing their student in six classes
  • The six classes are split into two groups of three classes known as A and B
  • French is the language offered in two classes in the A half and one in the B half
  • Spanish is offered to one class on each side
  • German is offered to just one class on the B side of the year

When assigning students to classes, the program will take into account all the restrictions placed on students. It does this intelligently so that students who have more than one restriction are only assigned to classes acceptable to all of them.

If we return to the picture taken from the List sheet, we can see how the program will limit each child to the correct classes:

  • Rupa Barji is restricted to classes 1, 2 and 4
  • Razeena Chohan is restricted to classes 4, 5 and 6
  • Flick Chuhan is restricted to classes 3 and 5
  • Roney Denton is restricted to class 3
  • Courtney Dimanche can be assigned to any class
